In his book “Cutting Through Spiritual Materialism”, Chogyam Trungpa, founder of Shambhala Buddhism, describes Spiritual Materialism as mistakes that practitioners make in using their spiritual practice to build or strengthen their sense of ego and identity rather than break them down. As the Wikipedia article puts it, “this is based on the idea that ego development is counter to spiritual progress.”
The more you have practiced sitting and studied Buddhist teachings to understand their concepts about ego and unattachment, the funnier you will find this video.. The question is, is this making fun of Buddhism, or making fun of spiritual materialism? And does Arj Baker know the difference?
